Rexco MQ-5412 54 key electric keyboard review

The Rexco MQ-5412 54 key electric keyboard is an extremely cheap keyboard and comes in at a fantastic price point which is perfectly aimed at children. With plenty of features to get stuck into, let’s take a look at how this budget keyboard stacks up. Is this keyboard too cheap? Should you spend more? Let’s find out!

Sound

When testing a keyboard at such a low price point you wouldn’t expect to hear a great sound. But it’s the expectations which need to be kept low in order to appreciate what this little keyboard offers for only £20. If you want to buy a keyboard that has a realistic sound, then naturally you are not going to find it on a £20 keyboard. However, the sounds are surprisingly better than you’d expect, and although the small speakers struggle at times, the Rexco MQ-5412 54 key electric keyboard is still a lot better than it should be for the price.

Features

There are quite a lot more features than you’d expect. These include – 100 voices, 100 tones, 100 rhythms, and 10 demo songs. There’s also a record function which is a lot of fun for children. They love to listen back to their own compositions. You’ve got some effects as well to mix up the sounds a little. There are also some nice learning features to get your child started on their musical journey.

One of my favourite features of the Rexco MQ-5412 54 key electric keyboard is the microphone. The sound of your voice through the speakers isn’t very loud, but it’s amplified more than enough for your child to have a lot of fun. For quiet practise there’s also a headphone jack so you can plug your headphones in and get some peace and quiet. Perfect for parents who have dedicated children that like to play for hours and hours!

The keyboard comes with a standard UK power adapter, but can also plug in 6 AA batteries if you want to be more portable. If you have a long journey ahead with your children in the back seat, you could put batteries in the keyboard along with some headphones and let them play away to their hearts content for the entire journey. You might find this is also very handy if your child wants to take their keyboard to school for a composition. Naturally this keyboard is also extremely light and small, so you can take it just about anywhere.

Price and summary

Let’s start with the best part about the Rexco MQ-5412 54 key electric keyboard – the price! At the time of writing this review it’s only £20. You will be hard pressed to find a keyboard that comes with this many features, like a microphone, for that price. Sure, the sound quality is below most other keyboards on the market. But those ‘most other keyboards’ are £50+. That’s a big difference!

What I love about the Rexco MQ-5412 54 key electric keyboard is that it offers a parent the opportunity to see if their child enjoys playing and learning the piano. Many parents all over the world have children that change from one thing to the next, without ever really dedicated themselves to just one thing. Parents are naturally always looking to help their child develop through music, but that can often be very expensive. Lessons, instruments, music – this all costs a lot of money.

The Rexco MQ-5412 54 key electric keyboard allows a parent to spend very little money to help see if their child enjoys music. More specifically, learning to play the keyboard or piano. Parents can buy this keyboard with the added satisfaction that if their child no longer enjoys playing after the first week, it didn’t cost too much to find out!
